Your therapy session takes place in a peaceful environment with relaxing music. Treatments are personalized for/towards your current health needs. You will be required to fill out a health history form. Questions and concerns will be addressed before and during treatment at your discretion.
These conditions will require to get medical clearance from your primary health care provider for: Cancer, Diabetes, MS, Lupus, recent surgery, Raynard's.
If you have a favorite relaxing, meditating or instrumental CD you are welcome to bring it with you. Clients are advised to drink water before and after appointments to assist the body in maintaining balance.
If you have a fever, infectious disease, recent injury or phlebitis you will not be able to receive services at this time.
What can I expect?
Massage techniques can release painful muscle tension,improve circulation and reduce mental & physical fatigue. It is the most effective means available to combat stress. When performing a Swedish massage these strokes are used: long flowing strokes, deep kneading, surface friction, light tapping and joint movement.
Massage therapists have completed many hours of education including a variety of massage techniques, extensive anatomy & physiology and knowledge of when massage is and is not appropriate. To practice in New York State all massage therapists must be licensed.
Your session will begin by answering general health questions, since there are conditions for which massage is not appropriate. Always tell me if you have a medical problem, even minor ones. Also let your primary care provider know you are receiving a massage. Some conditions require close communication between massage therapist and your doctor. I will gladly provide regular progress reports.
During each session, a lubricant may be used, such as light oil or lotion, which is good for your skin and absorbs well. Each session begins with relatively gentle pressure to calm you and as a result releases superficial tension. To address specific areas, gradually deeper pressure may be applied.
Please make yourself comfortable, change position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. You may just want to close your eyes and relax completely during a session, or you may prefer to talk. Remember that this is your massage and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Taking deep natural breaths can help you relax. Give it a try. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.
Massage on healthy tissues feels good. The saying "no pain, no gain" is not true for massage. The most effective and deepest massage works with the body's naturally, not against it. In an area of an injury or chronic pain some discomfort may be present which usually lessens shortly. As a massage therapist, I know ways to minimize pain, and will work carefully within what feels right to you. Always tell me of any discomfort so that I can make proper adjustments.
After a session, most feel very relaxed. You may have an initial period of feeling slowed, then may experience an increase in energy that can last for several days. You may still have questions, I will be happy to answer them. In the end, the best answers will come from experiencing a massage first hand.
