Welcome to the blog! Today, we’re going to “kick-off” the blog with a question we commonly get asked, and an answer for you! You’ve probably looked on the site recently and saw something, stopped, and said “huh? What is Reiki?”
So, without further delay, let’s dive into the blog.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is an energy healing technique that utilizes gentle touch in order to reduce stress and promote relaxation and healing. Reiki practitioners will use their hands to deliver energy to your body, improving the balance and flow of your energy to promote healing.
Who developed Reiki?
Reiki was developed in Japan by Mikao Usui in the 1920s. The word is derived from two other Japanese words, rei, meaning “universal,” and ki, which is about the vital lifeforce energy that flows through all. Now, in fewer than 100 years, you can find this healing technique all over the world being used as a complement to healthcare treatments.
Are there health benefits to Reiki?
Absolutely! Reiki can increase relaxation, reduce stress and relieve some symptoms of pain. Also, reiki can help in bringing on a meditative state, improving tissue and bone healing post-surgery and/or injury, stimulating your body’s immune system, and relieving pain and tension. Reiki also promotes feelings of peace, relaxation, security and wellness.
Reiki sounds great! But what does it feel like?
Reiki doesn’t use pressure, massage, or manipulation like other forms of touch therapy do, so it has a unique sensation that differs for everyone. Some people experience the energetic therapy with feelings of heat, tingling, or pulsing where the practitioner places their hands. Other times, people feel a different sensation. Sometimes, people don’t perceive any extra sensations.
However, most people do feel very relaxed and at peace during a reiki session. Some have felt so relaxed they fall asleep!
